In 1975, as new owners of Samara Point on Gull Lake, a pink (yes, pink!) house tucked along the channels to the south was not an original part of the resort. Rather, this was where the ol’ trapper and his wife, Wilbur and Mabel, lived. Two of the finest neighbors, and most amazingly talented people you could meet– masters of every trade one needs to “live off the grid” in the woods of the north, nearly 50 years ago. It was only 45 years later, and mostly to their memory, this home on their channels was to remain a part of the Samara story. And upholding Samara‘s Principle, we preserved the original cabin footprint…but, of course, enhanced this trapper’s cabin (more than once) adding more rooms, and a decor less suitable to a trapper and more befitting a comfortable northwoods getaway.
The Channel Home is Samara‘s most private lodging, with a private dock, private picnic area and private outdoor bonfire pit. Cabin 8 Channel Home has a unique floorplan with two of the four bedrooms (with the second bathroom), privately set apart from the main part of the cabin, just perfect for early-to-bed folks. Across the channel, your view is a nature preserve with amazing, private glimpses of wildlife! Deer swimming across the water early morning. Turtles laying eggs in the spring. Beavers, muskrats, herons and loons all gliding past along channel waters.
As with all Samara Point Resort lodgings, the kitchen, dining and living area of the Channel Home is an “open concept” layout, offering picture window views of the water, and a smaller, intimate waterside screened-in porch area. In the Samara style, handcrafted touches are throughout the lodging, and some unique, original built-ins crafted by the ol’ trapper himself.
